Experience the best in Afro Cuban Funk with PALO!

The Miami based band PALO! will be getting people grooving to their funkified Afro Cuban sound in Edmonton this July.  The band has recently started to get international recognition for their infectious music and was nominated for a 2015 Grammy as well as a 2014 Latin Grammy for their latest album “PALO! Live”.  However, the history of PALO!, their music and their connection to the likes of Willy Chirino, El Gran Combo and the Afro Latin music scene of Miami goes back many years.  I had the opportunity to speak with band leader Steve Roitstein and lead vocalist Leslie Cartaya about PALO! and their story.  You can check out that interview below and feast your ears on the music from both of PALO!’s amazing albums here.

Zouk, Semba, Kizmba, Tarraxa, and Ghetto Zouk – Oh My!

If you have the good fortune to attend a kizomba party or any event where there is an opportunity to dance kizomba, chances are you’ll be dancing to more than just kizomba music.  Much of what you’ll hear, especially in the New World Kizomba scene (aka North America), is not kizomba at all.   In a recent episode of Agua Latina (on CJSR 88.5 FM), DJ Clare Bear and myself discuss 5 common genres that you’ll hear on a kizomba dance floor.  Check it out on SoundCloud.  You’ll find the music from that episode in this months’ playlist.
